Falling in Love
I'll never forget the first time I saw my true love. It was on my first cruise. I'd just graduated from college. The whole experience was new and exciting and there were many unforgettable moments.
But the one moment that stands out in my mind is the first morning waking up in Cozumel, Mexico. I went up on deck to look around and was mesmerized by the incredible beauty in front of me. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt: Stunned. Fascinated. Thoroughly entranced.
It was at that moment I fell in love with the Caribbean Sea. I could stare at it all day and I thought nothing could be as wonderful as gazing at this sight.
I was wrong.
While in Cozumel, I went snorkeling for the first time. Getting into the warm, turquoise water was exquisite. I was nervous, but my guide was patient and encouraging and I quickly became at home with the fish. I now saw that the beauty of the ocean from above is nothing compared to what's beneath. The colorful fish and coral. The changing colors as the sunlight refracts on the water and casts shadows on the bottom because the water is so incredibly clear. I never thought I'd see anything as beautiful ever again.
And once again, I was wrong.
Every time I see the Caribbean with its blues and turquoises, every time I snorkel and see the bright fish and the beautiful coral, I believe with my entire being that I have never seen anything as beautiful as the sight in front of me at that moment.
Ever since that first day, I have been madly, thoroughly, endlessly in love. With the colors. With the smells. With the sound of the waves. But mostly with all that the Caribbean represents — passion. Passion to revel in nature and soak up all that it has to offer.
And most importantly, a passion for life. For living my life to the fullest every day. That's what the Caribbean gives to me. That's why the Caribbean will always be my one true love.
